Wine & Food Pairing: BBQ

BBQ is one of the more popular activities during the summer and is especially good as the meal before, during or after watching the Olympics game. Here are Wine2GoApp’s suggested pairing.

A dry rose from Spain or South of France would cater to a wild range of sauces but specifically –

Smoky BBQ sauce: Pair with a Rhone red, an Australian Shiraz or a California Cabernet Sauvignon.  The combination of fruit and toast complements the smokiness while adding a taste of juiciness to the meat.

Tomato sauce: Pair with Barbera, Sangiovese which has good acidity to match.

Honey roasted sauce: Pair with a New World Chardonnay or a Moscato D’asti.

Also consider the following recipe.  Try to use a table wine of similar style with the wine you’d drink!

Recipes:

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup red wine

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1/4 teaspoon oregano

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions:

1 In a heavy-duty plastic food bag, mix all ingredients well.

2 Place steak in marinade and seal bag tightly.

3 Place in refrigerator for at least 4 hours, inverting bag every hour.

4 Marinade can be used to baste steak while grilling.
